Dive Insight:
Sprouts over the last few years has focused on ambitious store growth plans, debuting at least 30 locations every year since 2023. Now, as the specialty grocer looks to the next couple of years, it is readying to bring its assortment to new markets farther north.
Sprouts Chief Development Officer Dave McGlinchey recently told the Boston Business Journal that Sprouts is planning to open between 30 and 40 stores across New England starting in 2028. In emailed comments to Grocery Dive, a Sprouts spokesperson added that the company doesn’t yet have a timeline for this growth beyond the expected 2028 debut in the region.
This year, Sprouts has entered one new state — New York — when it opened a store on Long Island in early January. Store managers for the Centerreach, New York, location confirmed that the grocer has more stores planned for the state, including two additional locations on Long Island as well as one in Hartsdale.
However, the bulk of 2026 growth so far has focused on markets Sprouts already operates in. For example, Sprouts recently opened stores in Santa Maria, California, and Lake Nona, Florida. The Houston area recently welcomed two Sprouts stores this spring in Kringwood and Webster, Texas. Come September, Sprouts will hold a grand opening for a new location in The Woodlands, Texas, the grocer confirmed via email.
Sprouts is also expected to open a store in Weatherford, Texas, part of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth region of the Lone Star State, in late July, per the grocer’s website.
Additional stores slated to open in 2026 include locations in Buckeye and Phoenix, Arizona; Inglewood, California; and Bear, Delaware, according to the grocer’s website.
The specialty grocery company has store sites planned for early 2027, as well, Sprouts confirmed. Savannah, Georgia, will open its first Sprouts next year, according to a Sprouts spokesperson, who confirmed the grocery company signed a lease for a location at the Crossroads Shopping Center off East Victory Drive and Skidaway Road.
Tallahassee, Florida, will also receive its first-ever Sprouts store during the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, marking the company’s entrance into a new region of a state that it has prioritized over the past few years, the spokesperson said.
Local news outlets reported Sprouts will also open a store in Cibolo, Texas, next year, but Sprouts could not confirm an opening date.
During its fourth-quarter earnings call in February, Sprouts President and Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Konat said that the company expects to expand in the Northeast and Midwest regions in 2027, adding that it will also be a year of “more balanced quarterly spread of new store openings.”
