Kansas City, Missouri-area grocery chain Cosentino’s Food Stores has debuted ChopMore!, a no-frills grocery store under the Price Chopper banner centered around value.
The new store sells groceries priced at what Cosentino’s described as its cost plus a 10% charge to cover overhead, which the company said in a press release “provides customers with complete price transparency and deep savings across every aisle.”
Even with the 10% charge, the new store will still offer “lower everyday prices,” Cosentino’s said in the announcement.
Cosentino’s held a ribbon cutting for the new store, at 8700 E. 63rd St. in Kansas City, on Tuesday.
The store, which formerly was a Price Chopper location, carries goods including meat, produce, deli items, hot foods and baked goods.

Cosentino’s spent over a year studying the cost-plus grocer model in other markets and concluded that the approach “will empower our local, family-owned stores to go head-to-head with giant national big-box retailers,” John Cosentino, executive vice president of Cosentino’s Food Stores, said in the announcement.
Cosentino’s is considering whether to expand the ChopMore! banner and will decide after evaluating how the new store performs, Cosentino’s Director of Marketing Chad Weinzerl said in an interview.
In addition to the ChopMore! store, Cosentino’s runs about 30 supermarkets under banners including Price Chopper, Sun Fresh, Apple Market and Cosentino’s.
Cosentino’s is one of four grocery operators — which include the Ball, McKeever and Queen families — running the roughly 50 Price Chopper stores in the greater Kansas City area. The Midwest Price Chopper is separate from the Price Chopper banner in the Northeast, which is run by the Golub Corporation.
