Sprouts Farmers Market confirmed last week that it plans to open its first store in Ohio in 2028.
The specialty grocer signed a lease for 1451 W. 5th Ave. in Columbus, according to an emailed statement, marking the 26th state where Sprouts will operate.
Sprouts has been on an expansion kick in recent years, and these plans haven’t wavered despite the grocer’s recent lackluster financial results. Sprouts’ new stores are serving as a bright spot for the company. During its most recent earnings call in late April, CFO Curtis Valentine said that the company’s first-quarter net sales increases were largely due to new store performance.
CEO Jack Sinclair also told investors during the call that he is confident Sprouts will meet its goal of debuting at least 40 locations by 2026’s close. He added that the specialty retailer has almost 150 new locations approved and over 105 executed leases.
Sprouts recently opened its first store in New York in early January. Store managers for the Centereach, New York, location on Long Island confirmed earlier this year during a store tour that more Sprouts stores are slated for New York, including two more on Long Island — in Smithtown and Levittown, as well as one in Hartsdale, New York, a hamlet in Westchester County.
Sprouts currently operates nearly 500 stores across 25 states.
