Terry Stanley, CEO of regional supermarket chain Fresh Value, will be leaving the retailer on May 2, he confirmed in an interview on Friday.
Stanley will be succeeded by Shane Holliday, who joined the Alabama-based grocery company last year, Stanley said. Holliday is currently Fresh Value’s vice president of operations, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“Shane is a proven leader who understands our business at its core, our stores, our teams, and most importantly, our customers,” Stanley wrote in a LinkedIn post on Sunday, adding that Holliday will assume his new position on May 3. “Over the years, he has demonstrated the kind of steady, values-driven leadership that earns trust, drives performance, and builds strong teams. There is no one better prepared to lead Fresh Value into its next chapter.”
Stanley became Fresh Value’s CEO last May after serving as chief operating officer of the chain for about three years, his LinkedIn profile indicates. Before moving to Fresh Value in April 2022, he spent nearly a decade in multiple roles at Lowes Foods, most recently as senior director of operations. Earlier, Stanley worked at retailers including Bi-Lo and Food Lion, where he began his career as a courtesy clerk.
“The grocery store is the best leadership training ground in America,” Stanley wrote in a Friday LinkedIn post in which he announced his departure from Fresh Value. “It teaches accountability, discipline, customer service, financial awareness, and how to lead when things aren’t easy.”
Stanley did not say why he is stepping down from Fresh Value, but indicated in the post that he intends to remain in the grocery industry: “In this next chapter, I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned through a book, speaking, and working with operators who are looking to improve and grow,” he wrote.
Like Stanley, Holliday worked at Lowes Foods and Bi-Lo before joining Fresh Value. He also previously worked for Southeastern Grocers.
Fresh Value operates 15 stores under the Fresh Value and Meat Depot banners, 14 of which are in Alabama. The company runs a single Fresh Value location in Mississippi.
