Woodman has been with the family-led business throughout his approximately three-decade career. In his new role at the company’s helm, he will focus on growth, innovation and ensuring long-term success, according to the announcement.
“As we look to the future, we will continue investing in our team members, embracing innovation, and strengthening the relationships that have made Woodman’s successful for generations,” Woodman said in a statement.
Woodman’s predecessor, Phil Woodman, has stepped into the role of chairman of the board, where he will provide guidance to the executive team and help “ensure continuity of the company’s long-term vision,” per the press release.
Like Woodman, Popp has worked for the company for around 30 years, joining in 1997 as human resources director before becoming executive vice president in 2017, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Woodman’s recently gained recognition in the industry when it snagged the No. 3 spot in Dunnhumby’s annual Retailer Preference Index for having strong customer value propositions around pricing and quality, bumping Costco to fourth place.
Last August, Woodman’s opened a store in Racine, Wisconsin, marking its 20th location. The employee-owned grocery retailer is based in Janesville, Wisconsin.
