Dive Insight:
A steady stream of announcements from Giant this year indicates the banner is prioritizing improving the shopping experience inside its stores by upgrading core departments.
The grocer’s most recent store project updates are underway at a Giant store located at 1201 Knapp Road in North Wales, Pennsylvania, as well as at two Martin’s stores in Winchester, Virginia, located at 1950 S. Pleasant Valley Road and 200 Rivendell Court.
The three stores are undergoing renovations to their fresh departments, center store aisles and wine and beer areas, including adding “improved efficiencies” and new products, the grocer said. At the stores, the deli and prepared foods departments are also undergoing an overhaul to offer more grab-and-go options, and all the locations’ pharmacies will get a new consultation room for pharmacists to administer immunizations.
The Giant store and two Martin’s stores will remain open during the renovation process, which is expected to wrap up by the end of this year.
As Giant has opened and remodeled stores recently, the banner has not only highlighted upgrades to its core departments but also added unique features.
Last month, Giant announced the grand reopening of its Hatfield, Pennsylvania, store located at 1540 Cowpath Road. Like the Giant and Martin’s store remodels currently underway, the Hatfield location’s fresh department and center store aisles were updated with “improved efficiencies … and an enhanced assortment of products,” while the deli and prepared foods sections bulked up on grab-and-go offerings, the grocer noted in a press release.

The Hatfield Giant relocated its beer and wine section to the front of the store and refashioned its Wall of Values to serve as a one-stop shopping destination for sales items from the grocer’s weekly circular, per the announcement. The store’s pharmacy added a pop-out area to administer vaccines in a more private setting.
In June, Giant also opened a new Philadelphia store that features an in-store sushi chef, a full floral department, a specialty cheese case, and a beer and wine section.
In May, Giant debuted two new stores that it had acquired at the start of this year. The banner purchased Everett Foodliner and Saxton Market, two grocery stores located in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, back in February and temporarily closed the stores to complete “minor remodels, install new signage, and undertake an overall décor update,” according to a press release. Along with now offering the classic Giant departments, the Saxton store bakery features self-serve donuts and a larger hot food program, while the Everett store includes a fuel station, a greater variety of center store products and a larger produce department.
