Wakefern Food Corp. banner The Fresh Grocer debuted its first store in New York City on Friday, according to an emailed announcement.
The 18,000-square-foot location in the city’s borough of Brooklyn is owned and operated by Wakefern member Inserra Supermarkets.
The new grocery store, which is Inserra’s first location in New York City, carries a variety of national brands as well as private label products under the Bowl & Basket, Wholesome Pantry and Paperbird lines. Located at 523 Fulton St., the store also features a full-service butcher, a bakery, ready-made meals and produce from local producers in addition to a range of international cheeses, sushi and a floral department.

The newly opened Fresh Grocer location joins more than two dozen other grocery stores Inserra Supermarkets runs. Those locations include 24 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York, in addition to two Price Rite Marketplace locations and a Fresh Grocer store in New Jersey.
Like The Fresh Grocer, ShopRite and Price Rite are under the Wakefern umbrella. The grocery cooperative also includes grocery banners Gourmet Garage, Fairway Market, Dearborn Market and Di Bruno Bros.
The opening of the new store follows Wakefern’s acquisition last summer of New York City supermarket chain Morton Williams.
