Stop & Shop announced in a Wednesday LinkedIn post the appointment of Bob Yager to executive vice president of operations.
Yager has worked for Ahold Delhaize for nearly two decades, most recently serving as senior vice president and division lead. Prior to that role, Yager worked as SVP of sales and operations for Stop & Shop’s operations in several regions. He also had a short stint as SVP of supply chain, logistics and supply chain planning for Ahold USA, according to his LinkedIn profile.
“[Yager] is known for his strategic leadership skills as well as his people-centered approach to development, both of which will enable him to help Stop & Shop grow to new levels of success,” Stop & Shop said in its LinkedIn post. The grocery banner added that Yager is focused on “removing friction for our customers and streamlining ways to work for our store management teams.”
This executive promotion comes as Stop & Shop continues to fight to stay relevant in a competitive Northeast region where specialty and discount retailers have won over many shoppers. Last year, more than 30 of the chain’s stores closed.
During Ahold Delhaize’s most recent earnings call in May, executives told investors that Stop & Shop showed signs of improvement in part due to ongoing remodeling efforts and taking steps to bring down prices.
