SpartanNash has named Matt Plumb as vice president of marketing for the company’s retail banners, according to a Monday announcement from the grocery retail and wholesaler.
In the newly created role, Plumb will oversee the development of marketing strategies for SpartanNash’s approximately 200 retail grocery stores and will tap insights about how people shop to help the company set its banners apart, the grocery company said.
Plumb will work with the company’s retail and merchandising group “to deliver freshness, value, convenience and outstanding customer service to our guests,” SpartanNash Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Erin Storm said in a statement.
Plumb, who most recently worked as an independent marketing consultant, previously served in various roles for whiskey maker Beam Suntory. He also held positions including associate brand manager and category manager for food company Kraft Heinz.
SpartanNash has recently taken steps to expand its presence as a grocery retailer, adding dozens of stores to its portfolio last year and hiring a new vice president of retail operations in April. The company also brought on a new chief retail officer with experience at Kroger and Target late last year.
SpartanNash, which runs numerous grocery banners, including Family Fare, D&W, Fresh Market and Martin’s Super Markets, has recently seen its retail sales soar even as its wholesale operations have lost momentum.
