Dive Insight:
GLP-1 medications for weight loss are expected to account for more than a third of food and beverage sales over the next five years, according to a Circana report from November 2025.
Aaron Sapp, vice president of pharmacy and wellness for parent company Wakefern Food Corp., said the grocery company is seeing a growing number of its customers turn to GLP-1 medications.
“[W]e want to make sure they feel supported from the moment they fill that first prescription,” Sapp said in a statement. “These starter kits provide simple tools and tips that help people take those important early steps to be successful in their weight loss journey.”
The free kit is available to shoppers starting this week, while supplies last, who fill their first GLP-1 prescription at a ShopRite Pharmacy, according to the press release. The wellness guide in the kit offers recommendations on protein intake, hydration, lifestyle changes and navigating ShopRite stores, plus healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes.
Free samples of health-focused products are in the kit, such as an Oikos protein shake, Liquid I.V. powdered electrolyte drink mix and Vital Proteins collagen powder. The kits also include coupons for items like Pre Brands lean beef, Healthy Choice frozen meals and The Fruitist Co. fresh blueberries, according to the announcement.
According to Circana, while GLP-1 users buy fewer groceries, they spend more compared to non-users. An ADM report in November 2025 found that 80% of consumers taking these weight-loss medications are willing to pay more for food and beverage products that provide health benefits.
