The European unemployment rate hit a record high of 12.2 percent in April, and among young people the rate is even worse. Unemployment among young Europeans is at 23 percent. Nestle wants to fix that.
The company announced a program to offer jobs and apprenticeships to as many as 20,000 people under the age of 30.
According to Bloomberg, Nestle’s European Unit Head Laurent Freixe said in a statement: “Governments alone cannot resolve the problem of youth unemployment in Europe. Companies must play their part.”
The plan, reports The Huffington Post, is for Nestle to offer 10,000 jobs to people under the age of 30 by 2016 and to create an additional 10,000 apprentice positions.
Currently Nestle employs about 100,000 in Europe.
