Natural Grocers has found a new way to encourage customers to sign up for its loyalty program: shelling out cheap eggs.
Through a newly announced partnership with specialty egg brand Contented Hen, Natural Grocers is offering a discount to its {N}power loyalty members on four varieties of the company’s eggs — free-range, organic free-range, pasture-raised and organic-raised — starting at just $2.29 a dozen until June 5.
The discounts offer up to 42% off regular {N}power pricing, according to the Friday press release, with Grade A large brown eggs that are free-range, organic free-range and organic-pasture raised marked down $1.70 while pasture-raised eggs are down $1.80.
In recent months, egg prices have been consumers’ barometer of food inflation. And while their tolerance has risen for high egg prices, concerns about affordability and availability prevail.
Natural Grocers’ loyalty program has proven successful at drawing in shoppers, and this latest initiative further underscores how the specialty grocer is continuing to leverage it. During its most recent earnings call last week, Natural Grocers told investors that its net sales penetration during its second quarter for the {N}power rewards program increased to 81% from 78% a year ago.
Offering discounts on goods like eggs and avocados is a “big draw for our members,” Natural Grocers Co-President Kemper Isely told investors Thursday. The specialty grocer also sends out individualized offers to its members that are “tailored toward their shopping habits” as well as allows them to earn points in-store that “essentially works out to a 1% rebate,” Isely added.
