Brookshire Grocery Co. has agreed to acquire two Uptown Grocery stores in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, the Texas-based supermarket operator announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The locations, which are in The Village and Edmond, Oklahoma, will become Fresh by Reasor’s stores following a conversion process set to begin on Oct. 22.
Brookshire plans to later remodel both stores and expand their assortments.
Brookshire intends to bring an array of new offerings to the stores it is acquiring that reflect aspects of other Fresh by Reasor’s stores, but did not say which of those features it will add to the new locations. The banner’s existing stores offer chef-prepared entrees, brick-oven pizza, dry-aged beef, full-service meat and seafood counters, and an array of organic produce. The stores also each have a coffee bar, live music, an outdoor cafe and a park with a children’s playground.
“These new stores represent a bold step in our company’s growth journey and stand as a testament to our mission: to create and deliver exceptional experiences and lasting value for our customers, guided by our core values,” Brookshire Chairman and CEO Brad Brookshire said in a statement.
Brookshire said it plans to offer jobs to all “qualified employees” who now work at the stores it is acquiring and added that it expects to hire around 40 new people to work in each location. The new workers will be assigned to roles in areas including customer service, store operations and merchandising.
Brookshire currently runs more than 200 grocery stores in four states under the Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, Reasor’s and Fresh banners. The company opened its first Fresh by Brookshire store in 2011 and unveiled plans to acquire the Reasor’s chain in 2021.
