Amazon has once again tapped a Whole Foods Market executive to head up a department under its Worldwide Grocery business.
Caitlin Leibert announced on LinkedIn last week that she was named global head of sustainability for Worldwide Grocery at Amazon. Previously, she was Whole Foods’ vice president of sustainability for the past four and a half years. Prior to Whole Foods, she was the director of sustainability at Chipotle, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Sustainability has long been a cornerstone of Whole Foods’ business. Bringing over a top Whole Foods sustainability executive to oversee its own grocery sustainability work underscores how Amazon is continuing to find avenues to meld its grocery business with Whole Foods’.
At the start of this year, Amazon named Whole Foods CEO Jason Buechel as its vice president for worldwide grocery stores. Throughout 2025, Amazon has tapped top Whole Foods executives to oversee aspects of its entire grocery business. The company also started bringing all corporate Whole Foods employees under the same benefits system and compensation structure as corporate Amazon workers, a process that the company aims to complete by December 2026.
