Dive Brief:
- Albertsons — comprised of Albertson's LLC, New Albertson's, Inc., and Safeway Inc. — said today that current executive chairman Bob Miller will also take on the role of CEO effective immediately.
- With this announcement came the revelation that a new office of the CEO would be formed, with Miller; Wayne Denningham, chief operating officer for all regions; Justin Dye, chief administrative officer; and Shane Sampson, chief marketing and merchandising officer.
- Robert Edwards, who took the reins of CEO once the merger closed, is staying on at the company as vice chairman.

The office of the CEO is there to shore up the day-to-day workings of Albertsons' 14 sectors and 2,200 stores.
"We’ve made significant strides in the time since the merger has closed, and I feel comfortable turning my focus to other matters that will be of the best benefit to the company," said Edwards in a press release. "It’s been a privilege to work with Bob and our teams as we’ve brought these companies together, and I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve completed and the foundation we’ve created for the future," said Edwards.
Considering the many odds and ends surrounding the Albertsons-Safeway merger, it appears the leadership end is now more put together.
