As Walmart expands its rapid delivery service, which includes 30-minute delivery, its addition of restaurant meals offers another way for the retailer to promote ordering and for shoppers to build larger baskets.
Subway delivery is available from select Walmart stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas and will expand to roughly 1,400 locations by the end of the summer, per the press release.
Subway delivery is available based on addresses associated with their accounts, customers will see the option to order from the in-store restaurants directly in the Walmart app or website. Customers can browse Subway’s menu, customize their meals and add to their cart. The QSR’s options can be ordered on their own or alongside grocery or household items.
As of June 1, Subway began requiring franchisees within Walmarts to participate in Walmart’s third-party delivery program, per the company’s franchise disclosure document. Orders placed through Walmart are routed to the point-of-sales system of the guest’s chosen restaurant.
Launched in 2020, Walmart Express Delivery includes 30-minute service in select markets, as well as three-hour service and late-night as well as early-morning options. The retailer’s same-day service now reaches around 95% of U.S. households, the company recently noted on LinkedIn.
Walmart’s push for speedy delivery comes at the same time that Amazon is expanding its same-day perishables grocery delivery service, including a 30-minute option that the company says will reach tens of millions of shoppers this year.
