New York state-based specialty retailer DeCicco & Sons has started selling treats from confectioner CandyKing through an arrangement the companies said marks the first time a U.S. grocer has made a pick-and-mix concept based on Swedish candy available to shoppers.
DeCicco & Sons is currently selling the candy — which has rapidly gained fans on Instagram and TikTok in recent years — at a store in Brewster, New York, through a pilot and will decide whether to bring the products to other locations when the test concludes, according to a Friday press release. The grocer, which runs 11 stores in New York and one in Connecticut, did not indicate when it expects the pilot to conclude.
“Swedish Pick & Mix candy is something people have been talking about for months, and we're excited to see how our customers respond to the authentic experience,” John DeCicco Jr., the grocer’s CEO, said in a statement.
Cloetta, CandyKing’s Stockholm-based parent, said in a press release earlier this month that it anticipates that more DeCicco & Sons stores will start selling its products after the test wraps up. Cloetta also runs a store in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan that opened in December.
The pilot is connected with Cloetta’s ongoing effort “to leverage the growing demand for Swedish Pick & Mix candy in North America,” Niklas Truedsson, the candy company’s chief pick and mix officer, said in a statement.
