Allegiance Retail Services on Thursday named Jason Ferreira as its new CEO and acting board chairman, effective immediately. Ferreira’s appointment is part of the co-op board’s succession development plan.

Ferreira will serve as acting chairman until the board and chairman appointments are finalized on Wednesday at the Allegiance Annual Member Meeting, per the announcement. Outgoing Chairman Lou Scaduto voluntarily stepped down “to help ensure a smooth leadership transition.”
Ferreira has served on Allegiance’s board since 2021 and has been a co-op member since 2013. He is also currently on the National Supermarket Association’s board of directors.
Allegiance supports independent supermarkets, including Foodtown, Market Fresh and Big Deal Food Market. The co-op recently debuted a new small-format grocery banner, Pathmark Daily, on Long Island at the start of this month.
