Dive Insight:
Aldi and Lidl are duking it out to offer the most affordable Thanksgiving meal deal, and while their offerings overlap in many ways, each approaches value differently.
This year’s Aldi Thanksgiving meal bundle is one dollar cheaper than 2025’s and offers a bigger turkey — a 16-pound bird compared to a 14-pound one. Lidl’s 2026 Thanksgiving offering, which is 14 cents cheaper than last year, more closely resembles its 2025 deal by once again providing around 20 staple ingredients for sides and dessert along with a 14-pound turkey.
For the meals themselves, Aldi’s side essentials consist of a 12 oz. pack of Hawaiian sweet rolls, three boxes of assorted stuffing, three pounds of sweet potatoes, cranberries, steamable frozen peas and a tray of baby peeled carrots and celery. For dessert, Aldi is providing customers with pumpkin pie ingredients, which include pumpkin pie mix, heavy whipping cream, pie crusts and whole milk, according to a Wednesday press release.
Aldi customers can shop for items as part of the meal bundle through Nov. 25, the discounter’s announcement noted, and shoppers can easily locate these products via the turkey logo placed on store shelves throughout its stores.
The discounter is also ramping up this year’s Thanksgiving meal deal by providing more convenient ways to shop the offering. When ordering online for pickup or delivery, shoppers can add the entire meal bundle shopping list to their digital cart in one click on Aldi’s website.
Meanwhile, Lidl’s deal is only available for its Lidl Plus loyalty members.
Lidl’s holiday basket is once again stocked with the discounter’s private label goods, including two cans each of its cream of mushroom condensed soup, cut green beans and jellied cranberry sauces. Other private brand items in the deal include evaporated milk, a pair of brown gravy mix packets, mini marshmallows, Hawaiian sweet rolls and poultry seasoning, as well as two boxes each of macaroni and cheese and turkey stuffing mix, a Tuesday press release listed. Lidl-branded dessert ingredients for pumpkin pie include original whipped topping, pie crust dough and 100% pure pumpkin.
The discounter’s offering will run from Nov. 11 through Nov. 25.
Lidl Plus members can also benefit from the discounter temporarily cutting prices on 100 products every week throughout November. As part of this initiative, Lidl’s loyalty members who make qualifying purchases once each week during the month can earn up to $25 extra in the LidlPlus app in December, per the press release.
The discounter’s employees will also each receive a free turkey and get the day off work on Thanksgiving, as all Lidl stores will be closed for the holiday.
