Tom Thumb is expanding its presence in North Texas, opening the third of four new locations in the region within six months, according to a Monday press release.
The Albertsons banner opened a 63,000-square-foot store at 1046 Market Way in Argyle, marking the largest of the three new locations under the banner. The two locations that opened in December, in Sanger and Sunnyvale, Texas, are 50,000 square feet and 59,000 square feet, respectively, according to separate press releases.
“This store has been a long time coming for Argyle and Northlake residents,” Division President Bill Neve said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring a full-service Tom Thumb closer to home and to officially welcome our newest customers.”
Like the Sanger and Sunnyvale stores, the Argyle Tom Thumb has tens of thousands of grocery items, over 1,000 local products as well as a bakery, deli, meat, seafood, produce and floral departments, an Albertsons spokesperson wrote in an email to Grocery Dive. The three stores also each have an in-store Starbucks coffee kiosk, a pharmacy with a drive-thru lane, and pickup service.
The Argyle store features a first-of-its-kind 72-foot protein and nutrition set section, the spokesperson added.

Tom Thumb plans to open a store in Midlothian in April — marking the fourth store in the banner’s six-month opening tear in North Texas. The Albertsons chain has also started construction on a storefront in Lucas, Texas, with an opening expected later this year, per the announcement.
Albertsons’ ongoing expansion in North Texas is just the latest example of how grocery competition continues to heat up in the region. Last month, H-E-B began construction on its fourth Joe V’s Smart Shop in the region as the Texas-based grocer expands its discount chain. H-E-B also announced in February that it purchased over 600 acres in Valley View, Texas, as part of its multi-phase plan to build facilities to support its supply chain operations.
Meanwhile, Kroger in December announced plans to break ground on three Kroger Marketplace stores in North Texas sometime in 2026.
